A Beginner's Guide to Paintball Accessories

When playing paintball, you'll need a marker, mask, air tank, hopper, and other pieces of equipment before you even go on the field. These are the biggest and most important items required, and it can be a big investment to get everything. However, that doesn't mean you should overlook the small stuff. There are a lot of little accessories that can make playing paintball a lot easier and more fun. Without them, you could be in for a frustrating day. Here are a few paintball accessories that you might want to add to your kit before you play.

Marker manual – Be sure you bring the manual for your marker, even if you just leave it in the car. If your marker needs to be taken apart and serviced in the field, you'll be glad of having a manual on hand.

Extra batteries – If your hopper or another part of the marker needs batteries to work, be sure that you bring extras. Otherwise, you could find yourself out of the game, due to a powerless marker.

Allen wrenches – most useful for second hand markers or inherited ones, these will help you get your marker apart in an emergency. Not having them on hand can lead to a frustrating session.

Oil – If weather gets bad, you might need to oil your marker. All you need is a small can or bottle of the oil that your manual suggests.

Spare mask lens – You can go on the field without a marker, but you can't go anywhere without goggles or a mask. They can break unexpectedly, so keep a spare lens in case yours gets scratched, blurry, or shatters outright. Don't hesitate to replace a lens that's not working right. There's no reason to play wearing a mask you can't see through.

O-rings and cup seals – If these get damaged, your marker isn't going to work properly. Bringing a few extra makes it easy to get it up and running.

Protective gear – While all you need to play is a mask and a marker in most places, that doesn't mean it won't help to wear some extra gear. Comfy, durable clothes that cover most of your body will reduce bruising and keep scratches down if you're playing woodsball. Some people wear knee and elbow pads, too, or gloves. The amount of protective gear you wear will depend on how comfortable you feel in it.

First aid kit – While getting hurt playing paintball is actually pretty rare (according to insurance companies, more people are hurt playing golf and going bowling), it's a good idea to keep a first aid kit around just in case.
