It doesn't matter whether you have the best mask on the market, or a cheap on that's what you could afford. Your mask is one of the most important pieces of equipment you have. Without it, you can't be on the field. However, not everyone knows that it's important to maintain your paintball mask. Taking care of your mask or goggles correctly can make them last longer and serve you better. It's pretty easy, as long as you know what to do.
Keeping Your Mask Clean
Paintball masks have a thermal coating on them that keeps the lens intact and reduces fogging and other problems. This coating can be harmed by dirt, sweat, and other things that get on your mask during the game. It's easy to clean this off, however. All you have to do is rinse it with water. There are no unusual or expensive chemicals involved. In fact, using cleaners can damage your mask's coating. That includes glass cleaner and other simple cleaning solutions. Water is all you need.
Rinse your mask as soon as you can after the game ends, and make sure your hands are clean when you touch it. When you can, take the lens out to cleaning, because grime and paint can get trapped between the lens and the rest of the mask. Over time, this will damage your lenses. When you wipe the lens down, use a soft cloth, like microfiber. Paper towels and other rough materials will scratch or damage your lens. Remember to wash the rest of the mask, too. It can air dry. Then, check the mask over to make sure that it's intact. If you see any cracks in the lens, even if they're tiny, you must replace them. Otherwise, you risk the lens breaking during a game.
Storing Your Paintball Mask
When you're not using a mask, it needs to be stored, and you can do it correctly or incorrectly. To make sure that it stays in the best condition, avoid overly warm or cold places, and keep your mask out of direct sunlight. This means keeping it in the car or the attic is a bad idea. Cover the mask up, too. There are specialty goggle bags for this purpose. However, if you don't want to do this, putting it in the bag it came in when you bought it or wrapping the mask in an old tee shirt will work. You want to keep it clean and avoid scratches on the lenses. Also, be sure that you store it on top of other objects, not the other way around. If you put something heavy on your paintball mask, it could get bent out of shape and be difficult, uncomfortable, or even impossible to wear. If you're worried about this happening in storage, putting the wrapped mask into a sturdy box will prevent problems.
